Credit utilization calculator
Updated November 7, 2026. Runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Enter your revolving balances and limits. You'll see overall utilization, an optional single-card utilization, and one calm sentence you can adapt. This is arithmetic only—not a credit score, not underwriting, and not financial advice.
How to use the number
- If overall utilization is high, paying down balances (or asking for a limit increase you can handle) is the usual lever—confirm issuer reporting timing.
- For payoff timelines across several debts, see the free debt payoff calculator. For a single card, see the credit card payoff calculator.
- The fastest way to free cash for a payoff is often a lower bill or a higher paycheck, and both start with one conversation.
What to say when the budget is the bottleneck
Knowing the utilization percent is step one. Asking a provider for a lower rate, or a manager for a raise, is where people freeze. The Bills Kit ($19) gives word-for-word lines for bill calls plus Call Mode. If pay is the lever, see the Raise Kit. One-time purchase, 14-day refund.
What is credit utilization?
Credit utilization is revolving balances divided by revolving credit limits, usually shown as a percent. Many lenders look at both per-card and overall utilization. This page sketches both from the numbers you type.
What percent is 'good'?
Common educational guidance is to keep overall utilization well under about 30%, and many people aim lower. Lenders use their own models. This page does not score you or predict a FICO or VantageScore.
Does paying before the statement date help?
Often the balance reported to bureaus is the statement balance, not the post-payment balance. Timing matters. Confirm how your issuer reports, and treat this calculator as arithmetic only.
Is this financial or credit advice?
No. It is simple arithmetic on the numbers you enter, plus a sample sentence you can adapt. It is not a credit score, not underwriting, and not a substitute for a qualified professional.
Guidance only, not legal, financial, or tax advice. The calculator does simple arithmetic on the numbers you enter.
