What does out-the-door price mean?

It's the total you pay to drive the car away: the vehicle price plus sales tax, dealer documentation fee, title and registration, and any add-ons. A down payment changes how you pay it, not the total. Comparing dealers on out-the-door price stops fees from hiding in the details.

Is the dealer doc fee negotiable?

Some states cap documentation fees and some don't. Even where a dealer won't lower the fee itself, you can ask them to reduce the vehicle price by the same amount so the out-the-door total comes down.

How do I get out-the-door quotes?

Email several dealers with the exact trim, color range, and options you want and ask for an itemized out-the-door quote in writing. Written quotes are easier to compare than numbers given over the phone.

Guidance only, not legal, financial, or tax advice. The calculator does simple arithmetic on the numbers you enter.
