Car payment calculator

Updated November 6, 2026. Runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Enter a vehicle price, down payment (percent or dollars), annual rate, and term in months or years. You'll see an estimated principal+interest payment from the standard amortization formula, plus optional monthly insurance and registration fields for a rough total ownership sketch. Those add-ons are clearly optional—not an insurer or DMV quote, not a lender quote, and not financial advice.

Tip: if you only know annual registration, divide by 12. Insurance and registration add-ons are not quotes.

How to use the number

What to say when cash or pay is the bottleneck

Knowing the payment sketch is step one. Saying the next line on a bill, rent, raise, or offer call is where people freeze. The Bills Kit ($19) gives word-for-word lines for bill and landlord moments plus Call Mode. If pay is the lever that funds the payment, see the Offer Kit ($29). One-time purchase, 14-day refund on both.

How is principal and interest calculated?

The standard amortization sketch is M = P × r(1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the loan principal (vehicle price minus down payment), r is the monthly rate (annual % ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and n is the number of months. If the rate is zero, M is simply P ÷ n. You can enter term in months or years; months win when both are filled.

Are insurance and registration part of the loan payment?

No. Insurance and registration are optional monthly add-ons on this page so you can sketch a rough total ownership cash-out. They are not a quote from an insurer or DMV, not a lender quote, and not a substitute for your actual policy or registration bill.

Is this a lender offer or financial advice?

No. It is simple arithmetic on the numbers you type, plus a sample sentence you can adapt. It is not a quote, pre-approval, credit decision, tax advice, or a substitute for advice from a qualified professional or your lender/dealer.

Down payment percent vs dollars?

Enter either a down-payment percent of the vehicle price or a dollar amount. If both are filled, the dollar amount wins. Principal is price minus that down payment (floored at zero). Trade-in equity is not modeled separately—fold it into the dollar down payment if you want.

Guidance only, not legal, financial, or tax advice. The calculator does simple arithmetic on the numbers you enter.
