How to use the number

What to say when cash is tight

Knowing the gap is step one. Saying the next line on a bill, rent, or family call is where people freeze. The Bills Kit ($19) gives word-for-word lines for those moments plus Call Mode. If the money talk is tied to an offer or raise that would change your runway, see the Offer Kit ($29). One-time purchase, 14-day refund on both.

How many months should an emergency fund cover?

A common planning range is 3 to 6 months of essential expenses. Use the low end if income is stable and dual, and the high end if income is variable, you have dependents, or job searches in your field take longer. This tool does not tell you which number is right for you.

What counts as essential expenses?

Housing, utilities, food, insurance, minimum debt payments, transportation, and other must-pay bills. Leave out discretionary spending you could pause in a real emergency. Use your own list—the calculator only multiplies what you enter.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is simple arithmetic on the numbers you type, plus a sample sentence you can adapt. It is not a savings plan, investment recommendation, or substitute for advice from a qualified professional.

Guidance only, not legal, financial, or tax advice. The calculator does simple arithmetic on the numbers you enter.
